What would you say if I told you that there are some things you can do, things that give you a sense of agelessness? You can think of your birthday as just another day you get to do the things you really love! Wouldn’t that be great?

These things are all part of choosing to implement a healthy lifestyle. And I am not only talking about having a clean diet and exercising. A healthy lifestyle extends to more than that.

Here is a list of 20 habits that are sure to slow your aging process and not only keep you young in your heart, but in everyone’s eyes also.

  1. Hydrate

Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work correctly. Your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints. Water is very important for good health.

  1. Eat fruits

Fruit are a good source of vitamins and minerals and for their role is to prevent vitamin C and vitamin A deficiencies. If you eat fruit as part of an overall healthy diet, you will have a reduced risk of chronic diseases. They are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin C and folic acid.

  1. Eat Vegetables

Some research has been made that evidentiate the fact that oxidative damage caused by toxins and metabolism contributes to the aging process at a cellular level. Foods high in antioxidants, such as veggies, seem to protect us from oxidative stress.

  1. Sleep

You definitely know that sleep makes you feel better, but what you probably don’t know is that its importance goes way beyond just boosting your mood or providing you with the rest you need. Adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your heart, weight, mind, and more.

  1. Avoid sugar

Sugar is a direct cause of aging and significantly reduces lifespan in organisms from yeast to primates. Not by a small amount either. A lifetime of eating too much sugar can make skin dull and wrinkled. This is due to a process called glycation, where the sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs – the perfect name for what they do). AGEs damage collagen and elastin, the protein fibers that keep skin firm and elastic, and that damage leads to skin wrinkles and sagging.

  1. Eat fish

Consuming fish provides essential fatty acids which act as a natural moisturizer for your skin, keeping it supple.

  1. Don’t smoke

If you smoke, you already know you need to quit. Experts agree that smoking accelerates aging, and that smokers look 1.4 years older than nonsmokers, on average. The wrinkly face is due to your smoking that's hampering the blood supply that keeps skin tissue looking supple and healthy.

  1. Take vitamin D

Vitamin D is particularly important in slowing the aging process.

  1. Moisturize

Moisturizing your face will help you to look and feel younger, you will have softer, more elastic skin, and it will keep your skin hydrated. All of these things are important if you want to make sure to look as young as you can in the years to come.

  1. Do cardio

Cardio is very important for vascular health, which is good for looking beautiful and young.

  1. Drink green tea

Tea is a great antioxidant, which means it helps against ageing. Only a cup in a day can act as a powerful healing method, as green tea is rich with antioxidants.

  1. Consume olive oil

Olive oil can make you a healthier person on the inside and out. Using olive oil in your cooking gives your skin a youthful and supple glow as it is a proven antioxidant and is rich in mono-saturated fatty acids. Also, using it as a moisturizer directly on your skin can prevent wrinkles form forming and make your skin unbelievably soft.

  1. Drink red wine

As it happens, your red wine habit might just be the key to staying young longer. The health benefits of red wine are greater than you might think. Besides having antioxidants, fermented foods are good for digestion and alcohol itself has also shown some surprising traits over long-term moderate use.

  1. Eat nuts

Nuts are the perfect snack food and are filled with anti-aging fats, vitamins and minerals. They are also great for suppressing appetite–just don’t eat more than a handful.

  1. Be happy

Staying young is all about being happy with yourself!

And this could be our 16th reason: you need to live less out of habit and more out of intent!
