How to avoid eating junk food at work?

We all know that a healthy lifestyle is based on regular exercise, plenty of rest and the proper nutrition that your body needs. However, when you spend 8 hours a day at work, it’s a little bit more difficult to make healthy choices when it comes about what you eat. For this reason, we decided to offer you a few suggestions.

Eat before you get to work

Breakfast is a controversial meal: some experts say that it’s absolutely essential, while others believe that you can do just fine without it. Anyway, when you know that, due to the amount of work for the day, you won’t get to eat very soon, breakfast gains a million points. Serve it at home and eat foods that increase your metabolism and energy levels, as well as that'll stimulate digestion: omelette without oil, mesh water, salmon, yogurt with cereal, fruit or vegetable smoothie etc. Pretzels and pastries are not, unfortunately, the happiest selections – no, not even in the morning. If you're in a hurry, yogurt with muesli can be a suitable choice.

Prepare your meals in advance

To make sure you resist the temptation of consuming junk food, you can prepare your lunch at home, in the evening. Here is a very tasty alternative: grilled chicken breast with tomato, cucumber, lettuce and spices, all wrapped in Lebanese pita. If you’re dieting, you can opt for chicken or mozzarella "sandwiches" with capsicum instead of bread. Another option is tuna salad, for which you need just a serving of canned tuna (in water or olive oil), lettuce, 1 or 2 tomatoes, 1 cucumber, spices and lemon juice. Wild rice and quinoa are also healthy foods that you can boil and serve with 2 diced tomatoes, 1 green pepper and some chopped parsley; at the end, add olive oil and lemon juice and enjoy your healthy lunch.

Snacks: opt for fruit or nuts

You can have a snack 2 hours before lunch and another one 2 or 3 hours before going home. For the first one, you can eat an apple, an orange, some strawberries or a few apricots. The second snack can contain a handful of nuts, cashews, hazelnuts or raw almonds. Raw nuts can be dried in the oven and eaten in combination with plums, for extra taste. No matter what food you choose, don’t skip these two little snacks – they’ll help you eat less when you get home.
